Appointment of Authorised Officers

Terms of Office

The term of office of Council members is normally four years from the date of their appointment (Paragraph 1 of Schedule 1, of the Pharmacy Act 2007). However, with regard to the first Council appointed under the Act, it is provided that eleven of the members will serve a term of office of two years from the date of appointment, with the remaining ten Council members serving four years.  Paragraph 1 sets out a procedure to be followed in determining whether the term of office of the first Council members will serve two or four years.

The memo, Setting the Term of Office of Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland Council Members dated the 24th September (and issued in Council documentation), outlined the procedure to be adopted for the selection of Council members to serve for 2 or 4 years. This procedure, which was approved by the Minister for Health and Children, was put into effect at today’s Council meeting. The procedure was scrutinized by a representative from the office of the legal advisor and from the PSI’s internal auditors, Ms Jeanne Kelly and Mr Conor Quinlivan respectively.

Please be advised that the following Council members were selected to serve for two years from 22nd May 2007, their term of office to end on 21st May 2009:
