New Council Appointments to Pharmacy Regulator

The Minister for Health and Children, Mary Harney TD, has appointed Dr John Hillery and Ms Kate Mulvenna to the Council of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (PSI), the pharmacy regulator, it was announced today.

Dr John Hillery, who was appointed as a public interest nominee, is a consultant psychiatrist and former President of the Medical Council of Ireland. He is also currently the Chair of the International Association of Medical Regulatory Authorities (IAMRA).

Kate Mulvenna is a community pharmacy advisor with the Primary, Community and Continuing Care pillar within the HSE. A community pharmacist of 18 years’ experience, Kate also worked in a hospital environment for some time. She took up position as a Primary Care Pharmacist with the Health Services in 1997. She was previously a member of the Council of the old PSI immediately prior to the enactment of the Pharmacy Act 2007.
