New President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland
Date: 28 May 2009 The Council of the PSI (Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland), the Pharmacy Regulator, has elected a new President, Noeleen Harvey. Mr Paul Fahey has been elected Vice-President.
Speaking today following her election, Ms Harvey said Irish pharmacy is currently undergoing a period of change. “Pharmacists will face new and significant challenges,” Ms Harvey said. “I believe pharmacists can play a much greater role in frontline health services for patients and I will work during my Presidency to advance that work. The continuing implementation of the 2007 Pharmacy Act and the Pharmacy Ireland 2020 initiative, which charts a radical course for developing pharmacy practice and services, will be the priorities for the PSI in this changing time for pharmacy in this country.”
Ms Harvey succeeds Dr Bernard Leddy who served as President 2008/2009 and Mr Brendan Hayes who was President 2007/2008. Ms Harvey is a Dublin-based community pharmacist who has previously served on the Board of the Eastern Regional Health Authority. She is also a member of the Drugs and Therapeutics Committee of the Mater Hospital, Dublin and the Poisons Council of Ireland.
Mr Paul Fahey takes up the role of Vice-President. He is a Tullamore-based community pharmacist who also works as an economic and information technology consultant within the pharmacy sector.
