PSI advertises for Head of Professional & Services Conduct Unit

The Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (PSI) is the statutory regulator of pharmacists, pharmacy assistants and pharmacies in the Republic of Ireland. The PSI carries out this function in the interests of public health and patient safety.
A vacancy has arisen for the full-time position of Head of Professional & Services Conduct Unit at the PSI following the recent promotion of the incumbent. This position arises at a time of significant and ongoing developments in the regulation of pharmacy. The purpose of the position is to carry out all designated activities in the area of complaints, inquiries and discipline relating to registered pharmacists and registered retail pharmacy businesses in performance of the PSI’s responsibilities in accordance with the statutory functions, legal advice and overall goals of the PSI.
An attractive remuneration package in line with health service scales as approved by the DoHC is available for the successful candidate and will be dependent on qualifications and experience.
The successful candidate must have a relevant professional qualification as a solicitor or barrister with 5 years post-qualification experience. Post-graduate management level qualification and a qualification and/or experience in pharmacy are desirable.
The successful candidate must also have an in depth knowledge of EU, Irish and international legislation as well as legislation pertaining to pharmacy, medicines, professional and health regulation. A minimum of three years management experience in professional regulation, health regulation, regulation generally or equivalent and knowledge and experience of managing and coordinating tribunals, disciplinary committees, operation of the Court services is desirable
The successful candidates will be required to demonstrate a strong commitment to the purpose and ethos of patient care and safety within which the PSI operates.
