Under the statutory rules for the new system of continued registration as provided for in Part 4 of the Pharmacy Act 2007, pharmaceutical assistants are required to apply for continued registration and pay the appropriate registration fee prior to the start of the year (i.e. before the current annual certificate of registration expires). Applications for continued registration for 2009 must be completed in full, signed and returned to the PSI by Monday 22nd December 2008.
The fee for continued registration as a pharmaceutical assistant for the calendar year 2009 (1st January 2009 to 31st December 2009) is €250.
Certificates of registration for 2009 will be issued early in 2009.
A process of cancellation of registration (and removal from the register) will commence in January 2009 for registrants who fail to apply for continued registration as a pharmaceutical assistant.
In 2009, the PSI received confirmation from the Offices of the Revenue Commissioners that the fees for continued registration for pharmacists and pharmaceutical assistants were allowed as a flat rate expense.
