The Minister for Health and Children, Mary Harney TD has commenced the second phase of the Pharmacy Act 2007, including Part 4 of the Act, which relates to the new registration systems for Retail Pharmacy Businesses (pharmacies), pharmacists and pharmaceutical assistants.
A number of new PSI Rules are also now commenced including Rules for the Registration of Pharmacists and for the Registration of Retail Pharmacy Businesses. These Rules set out the detail of the procedures and requirements which will be operated by the PSI in the operation of its functions.
Under the Pharmacy Act 2007, the PSI maintains registers of retail pharmacy businesses (pharmacies), pharmacists and pharmaceutical assistants.
These registers are published online and are accessible and available to view on this website via the ‘Search our Registers’ button on the top right hand corner of this page.
From 01 January 2009, a pharmacy must be registered as a retail pharmacy business in the register kept by the PSI in order to operate and comply with the Pharmacy Act 2007.
Pharmacists and pharmaceutical assistants must be registered in the registers kept by the PSI in order to practise.
